What structures can I model and calculate with EdiLus?
With EdiLus it is possible to proceed with the design and verification of new or existing reinforced concrete and ordinary masonry structures and new reinforced masonry and steel structures.
EdiLus is a structural calculation software specially designed and developed for the modeling and calculation of buildings intended for residential, public, office and commercial use. It is in this context that you can make the most of all the power, simplicity and modelling speed of EdiLus. The EdiLus solution isn't suitable for designing bridges, infrastructure works, railway networks, structures with precompressed elements and dams.
What types of analysis can I perform with EdiLus?
With EdiLus you can perform static and seismic linear analyses.
With regard to seismic calculations, it is possible to choose between equivalent static analysis and modal dynamic analysis.
Can I calculate mixed structures?
EdiLus can be integrated with optional modules for the design and calculation of reinforced concrete structures, masonry structures, steel structures, structures with wooden elements and adaptation of existing buildings.
By integrating the appropriate calculation modules, it will therefore be possible to proceed with the calculation and verification of mixed structures.
Can I analyze existing structures?
Yes, with the Masonry module and the Concrete module it is possible to analyze seismic improvement or adaptation interventions for existing and mixed structures.
What types of reinforcement interventions can I apply to existing elements?
With the Masonry module, you can design seismic adjustment or improvement interventions with reinforced concrete plating, carbon fibers (FRP), fiber-reinforced materials (FRCM), ties, pre-compression cables, etc.
With EdiLus Concrete, for reinforced concrete buildings, you can design seismic improvements or adaptation interventions in which it is possible to apply both reinforcements on existing elements and insert new structural elements such as new columns, walls, share walls, bracings, etc. to model for example roofs, rised level structures and carry out an overall verification.
Accessing a special menu, you can choose the type of intervention from the following:
- FRP Plating for Bending;
- Plating with FRP for shear stresses;
- Height Incrementation;
- Reinforced concrete jacket linings;
- Steel Jacket linings;
- FRP plating;
- Node Confinement;
- Reinforcement with reinforced plaster mortar on walls;
- Reinforcement with FRP on Walls;
- Underpinning.
What type of modeling is supported for masonry structures?
EdiLus Masonry adopts the innovative calculation method with triangular HP-SHELL schematization with multilayer variable thickening that allows you to perform the modeling of the structure in strict compliance with the different types of materials present, without assuming simplified assumptions on the data of the materials that are necessarily approximate.
The schematization with HP-SHELL elements allows you to know, from the simple structure drawn, the actual stress state of the masonry at each point and to take into account in the model all the elements characterizing an existing building in masonry (variation of materials, non-aligned holes, presence of different materials, interventions over time, etc.).
The resistant wall elements (spandrels and piers) are automatically identified and the relevant legal checks are also carried out.
You can also request the analysis of local mechanisms (overturning and facades bulging) and the design/checking of reinforced concrete or masonry foundations.
Can I model steel structures?
Yes, with the EdiLus Steel module you can design and calculate steel structures or individual steel elements within structures made of other materials.
Can I model wooden structures?
EdiLus allows you to also calculate wooden elements to complete reinforced concrete or masonry structures such as roofs, canopies, etc.
The module is not designed to calculate a full wooden structure as it does not provide the specific settings for the seismic calculations of this type of structure (behavior factor, dissipative checks of the structural elements, etc.).
However, it is possible to model and calculate a completely wooden structure by defining the NON-DISSIPATIVE behavior or by paying attention to the correct definition of the behavior factor (to be defined manually) or any other settings for the seismic calculation.
I need to do some local interventions and structural improvements. Can I use EdiLus?
EdiLus has been developed for the design of new buildings and for the verification of interventions such as improvements and seismic adaptations of existing buildings that therefore involve the behavior and verification of the structure as a whole.
It doesn't support the verification of isolated repairs.
However, this does not mean that it is not possible to model and verify/design even individual elements or some structural parts (such as roofs, foundations, etc.).
It is up to the user to demonstrate that the local intervention does not change the behaviour of the other parts or on the structure as a whole and that the interventions do not result in a reduction of the pre-existing safety levels.
In which formats can I export construction drawings?
With EdiLus you can export all relevant construction drawings in dwg/dxf file formats, PDFs and the 3D view of the structure in the IFC format, typical of BIM models.
What documents can I produce with EdiLus?
Automatically obtain all the project documentation directly from the BIM model, in accordance with the most recent legislative provisions: carpentry frameworks, reinforcement schedules, general technical reports, calculation results, geotechnical report, working drawings, maintenance plans and the structure's cost estimate (with PriMus).
Do I also get the verification of steel and wood connections?
Steel member connections design is integrated within the structure calculation.
With regard to the steel module, you can choose between different types of connections (flange, square, gusset plates, splice plates, anchor bolts, etc.) and define the geometry with graphical input and guided in compliance with the regulatory indications.
With regard to the wood module, you can define wood-wood connections with metal type connectors for 90° intersections between horizontal beams and/or columns and wood-r.c. connections with socket-type metal connectors between wooden columns and RC foundations or between 90° intersections with horizontal beams and RC columns and/or walls.
In addition, for some situations it is also possible to define a notch type connection, in the contact areas, where the software proceeds to shape the rods appropriately by defining notches in detail and support areas to perform a timely contact tensions check.
The software provides a detailed view of the construction details contextual to the three-dimensional view of the object connection.
With special duplication functions, you can replicate each connection in all the other similar conditions present in the structure.
Please note that connections can only be entered and calculated for some types of sections and for some predefined geometric configurations.
This means that you will not "always" be able to get a full connections check.
Can I quickly view and consult the calculation results?
With EdiLus, read the calculation results directly on the model.
See loads, stresses, deformations, stresses, vibration modes, safety coefficients, collapse accelerations, etc.
Also, view the various calculation results in 3D and color mapping for quick control.
Can I import files in dxf/dwg format for structure input?
Of course! You can import drawings in DXF/DWG format at various levels of the program.
We have also developed special functions that allow the automatic generation of structural objects starting from the imported dxf/dwg.
Can I import the building's 3D architectural model in IFC format?
EdiLus is the first Italian BIM authoring software for structural calculation with buildingSMART international certification for IFC import and export. With EdiLus you can, for example, import the digital model of the architectural project created with an architectural BIM design software (for example: Edificius, Revit, Allplan, ArchiCAD, VectorWorks, etc.) and continue to work on the structural design and analysis aspects in 3D in accordance with the design requirements as established by other design team disciplines.
Can I export the building's 3D structural model in the IFC format?
Absolutely. EdiLus allows you to export the 3D view of the structure in the IFC format typical of BIM models.
With what set of regulations can I perform structural calculations?
The following regulations are currently implemented in EdiLus:
- Brazilian NBR Standards for Reinforced Concrete and Steel Construction;
- Eurocodes.
Can I view and edit the reinforcements provided by the program?
Of course! A special Reinforcements editor allows quick modification and customization of the reinforced concrete elements with an immediate review of the structural members while keeping everything under control.
